What tension is best for you? It’s mainly down to preference but there are some key points to remember. Usually the heavier you are, the firmer a mattress should be. You can check if the tension in a mattress is correct for you by lying on your back and sliding the flat of your hand into the hollow of your back. If your hand slides in very easily or there’s a gap, the bed is too firm for you. If it’s really difficult to slide your hand in at all and you feel as if you are sinking into to the mattress, then the bed is probably too soft for you.
