Healthopedic mattresses are made from Visco Elastic Memory Foam which is a special fillings that reacts to the weight and tempreture of your body by moulding to your shape. Because this shape is retained without creating extra pressure, it gives you a feeling of weightlessness and helps you rest.
As mentioned, Visco Elastic Foam is designed to react to your body temperature. When cool the foam is rather firm, but once warmed by the body temperature it becomes more flexible, moulding to your body shape and easing you into a restful nights sleep. In addition, it has an open cell structure that allows air to flow freely, therefore helping maintain a constant mattress temperature.
The springs come in two types. The open coil and the pocket spring.
The open coil spring system is where the springs are wired together to form a total frame work beneath the mattress fillings. This is the most common spring type used in mattresses sold in the UK and will provide the same level of support throughout the product. This offers a cost effective alternative to an independent pocket spring system.
The pocket spring system is the best at providing individual support to the sleeper. The upper layer of springs shape to the body contours while the lower layer’s absorbs changes in weight distribution for the ultimate in comfort and support. As a rule of thumb the higher the number of individual springs, the more support will be provided to the sleeper.
