Worth knowing:
Arched Top with Engraved Panel Detailing
What it is: A solid pine panel with a gently arched top and shaped shoulders at each side. Engraved panel detailing follows the curve of the top edge and frames the centre of the headboard.
How it helps you: A timeless, traditional silhouette that adds character to the bedroom without feeling heavy. The engraved detailing adds depth and interest to the panel, giving it a crafted, furniture-quality look.
Turned Finials and Reeded Posts
What it is: Square corner posts with reeded (vertically grooved) detailing run down each side of the headboard, each topped with a turned wooden finial.
How it helps you: The posts and finials frame the bed and give the Orlando a classic, country-style finish. They pair naturally with traditional pine bedroom furniture for a coordinated look.
Solid Scandinavian Pine with Antique Pine Finish
What it is: The Orlando is handcrafted in the UK from solid Scandinavian pine, made from FSC certified timber, and finished in a warm antique pine finish that highlights the natural knots and grain of the wood.
How it helps you: Solid pine is strong and durable, so the headboard stays sturdy for years. The warm finish brings a natural, homely feel to the room, and FSC certified timber means the wood comes from responsibly managed forests.
Bed Fixing on Struts
What it is: Two wooden fixing posts (struts) are attached to the back of the headboard. These line up with the pre-drilled headboard holes in the divan base and are secured with bolts. The struts can be positioned higher or lower on the back of the base.
How it helps you: The traditional, stable fixing method. The headboard is firmly attached to the base so it does not shift or creak, needs no wall fixing, and can be set at the height that suits your mattress and how you like to sit up in bed.

Vs a plain or non-branded headboard: Many budget wooden headboards are made from MDF or chipboard with a printed wood-effect finish. The Orlando is handcrafted in the UK from solid Scandinavian pine and FSC certified timber, so you get genuine wood grain, a sturdier build and a finish that wears well over time. If you simply want the lowest-cost way to finish a bed, or prefer a painted look, a plain non-branded headboard may suit you better.
Vs other Friendship Mill headboards in the range: Friendship Mill headboards share the same handcrafted approach, but vary in outline and finish. The Orlando sits at the traditional, decorative end of the range, with its arched top, engraved panel detailing and turned finials. If you prefer a simpler outline or a wood-effect or painted finish, a plainer style from the range may be a better fit.
Vs other headboards at Land of Beds: The Orlando is a solid wooden headboard at an accessible price point, sitting alongside our wider range of upholstered and wooden designs. Choose wood if you want natural character, an easy-to-wipe surface and a traditional look; choose upholstered if you want a soft headboard to lean against or a fabric to match your bedroom. FSC Certified Timber - The timber is sourced from responsibly managed forests, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Nice pine headboard just what we wanted had to varnish it with a mixture of antique pine and mahogany to get the colour to match our older honey pine furniture.
read moreI wanted a pine headboard this shape and it's quite nice but I wish it wasn't antique pine in colour as I prefer natural but there was no choice (I have some beautiful pink-washed pine furniture by Alston's, including a headboard, that I bought years ago and isn't made anymore). However it arrived safely well-wrapped and is now fitted to a new bed in the other bedroom.

read moreHow does the Friendship Mill Orlando headboard attach to my bed?
The Orlando is a bed fixing on struts design. Two wooden fixing posts on the back of the headboard line up with the pre-drilled headboard holes on your divan base and are secured with bolts, so no wall fixing is needed.
Can I adjust the height of the Orlando headboard?
Yes. The struts can be positioned higher or lower on the back of the base, so you can set the headboard at the height that suits your mattress and how you like to sit up in bed.
Why is the Orlando wider than my bed?
Each size is slightly wider than the bed it is designed for, so the reeded corner posts sit either side of the bed and frame it. For example, the King Size headboard is 160cm wide for a 150cm King Size bed. Check the Dimensions section to make sure it fits your space.
Which bed sizes is the Orlando available in?
The Orlando is available in Small Single, Single, Small Double, Double and King Size. It is not available in European King Size or Super King Size.
Is the Orlando made from solid wood?
Yes. The Orlando is handcrafted in the UK from solid Scandinavian pine, made from FSC certified timber, and finished in a warm antique pine finish. As a natural timber, the knots and grain vary from piece to piece, so every headboard is unique.
