Worth Knowing
Platform Top Base
What it is: A solid wooden platform upholstered in fabric, covering the full area of the base.
How it helps you: Provides a firm, even surface that supports the mattress consistently across its full area, without any flex or variation - useful for memory foam and latex mattresses that benefit from a stable, unmoving base.
FSC Certified Timber
What it is: The base is made from timber sourced from FSC accredited forests, including wood from Harrison Spinks' own forest in North Yorkshire.
How it helps you: Gives you a sturdy, long-lasting foundation for your mattress, made from wood that has been responsibly sourced.
Drawer Storage
What it is: A choice of 2 or 4 full size drawers, or 2+2 continental drawers, which combine two standard drawers with two continental drawers at the head end of the base.
How it helps you: Drawers provide organised, easy-to-reach storage for bedding, clothing or seasonal items, and the 2+2 continental option allows the head-end drawers to open even when a bedside table sits alongside the bed, which a standard drawer cannot.
Ottoman Storage
What it is: A gas-strut assisted lifting top that opens from the foot end to reveal the full under-base cavity, available in Double, King Size and Super King Size.
How it helps you: The entire interior of the base becomes accessible storage - far more volume than standard drawers. The gas struts hold the base open safely without needing to be held. Allow enough clearance at the foot end of the bed for the top to lift fully.
Inset Castors
What it is: Small wheels fitted beneath the base, set in from the edges, supplied as standard with the no storage and drawer options.
How it helps you: Allow the bed to be repositioned easily without lifting, which is useful for cleaning or rearranging the room.
Glides
What it is: Glides are fitted to the base of the bed, supplied as standard with the ottoman option.
How it helps you: Allow smooth movement, protect your floors, and add a polished modern touch to the bed's design.
Colour & Fabric Options
What it is: Available in a range of colour and fabric options.
How it helps you: Allows you to find the perfect match for your bedroom's style and décor.
Zip & Link Option
What it is: King Size and Super King Size are also available as Zip & Link, supplying two individual bases that link together to form one bed.
How it helps you: Lets couples use a different mattress on each side of the bed, and makes each section easier to move through narrow doorways and stairs.

Vs buying a complete divan set: A full divan set includes both the base and a matched mattress, chosen and tested to work together. A bed base alone is the better choice when you already have a mattress you want to keep, when you want to choose base and mattress from different brands, or when you are replacing a base that has worn out while the mattress remains in good condition. If you are buying both together and want a single coordinated purchase, a divan set removes the guesswork of pairing separately.
Vs a platform top vs a sprung base: Platform top bases provide a firm, flat surface and are compatible with all mattress types including memory foam, latex, and pocket sprung. A Firm Edge Pocket Sprung base adds a layer of spring response from the base itself, which can extend the life of the mattress by absorbing part of the daily load. If you sleep on a heavier or deeper mattress, or if your current mattress is already quite soft, a sprung base may improve both comfort and longevity. If you prefer a firm feel or sleep on a memory foam or latex mattress, a platform top is the right choice.
Vs other bases in the range: Entry-level platform top bases offer similar storage choices at a lower price point, usually with a shorter guarantee. The Harrison Spinks Platform Top sits towards the premium end of the platform top category, adding handcrafted UK construction, FSC certified timber and a free 10-year warranty. If you want the base itself to contribute spring response, a pocket sprung base is the better fit, and if maximum concealed storage is your priority, a full-cavity storage base offers more volume than any drawer configuration.
The Harrison Spinks Platform Top is backed by a free 10-year warranty. A 10-year warranty on a divan base is a strong signal of confidence in the build quality - and for a base that may be paired with a premium mattress, long-term structural integrity matters.
FSC Certified - Independently certified confirmation that the timber used in this base has been sourced from responsibly managed forests.
National Bed Federation (NBF) Member - Harrison Spinks is an approved member of the National Bed Federation, the UK bed industry's trade body for quality, safety and responsible manufacturing.
Queen's and King's Awards for Enterprise - Harrison Spinks has received seven Queen's and King's Awards for Enterprise since 2013, including King's Awards for Innovation and International Trade.
The Harrison Spinks Platform Top gives you a firm, even platform top base with a choice of drawer or ottoman storage - a straightforward replacement for a worn divan base, or an upgrade to a brand-quality foundation for your mattress. Handcrafted in the UK from FSC certified timber and backed by a free 10-year warranty, it is a base built to justify the investment in the long term.
