A handcrafted, foam-free orthopaedic pocket spring mattress made exclusively for Land of Beds, featuring sustainably sourced cotton, Solotexâ„¢ and eOlusâ„¢ sustainable fibre fillings, Triple Edge Protectionâ„¢, and a choice of Firm (5/6) or Extra Firm (6/6) tension for targeted orthopaedic support.
A supportive, solid feel designed to keep your body well supported throughout the night. Ideal for back and front sleepers, or those who prefer a firmer sleeping surface.
Best for
Our firmest option, offering maximum support and minimal sink. Perfect for front sleepers, heavier individuals, or anyone who prefers a very firm, supportive mattress.
Best for
ReActiveâ„¢ 6-Turn Pocket Spring System
What it is: Hypnos's pocket spring system with 6 active turns per spring. Each spring is a single continuous coil that moves independently, responding to your body weight and position with firm orthopaedic resistance throughout.
How it helps you sleep: Delivers consistent, firm support across the sleeping surface with minimal motion transfer between sleeping partners. The open spring structure also drives air through the mattress to regulate temperature and keep it fresh.
Sustainably Sourced Cotton Layer
What it is: A certified sustainable cotton layer with responsive properties that complement the spring unit and enhance breathability.
How it helps you sleep: Adds a natural, breathable comfort layer that works with the springs to improve airflow and contribute a gentle cushioning feel without compromising the firm orthopaedic support beneath.
Solotexâ„¢
What it is: A lofty comfort fibre layer with rebound properties and an open structure that promotes airflow through the comfort layers.
How it helps you sleep: Adds cushioning depth at the surface and supports shape retention over time, keeping air moving through the fillings to help regulate temperature and reduce moisture build-up.
eOlusâ„¢ Sustainable Fibre
What it is: A comfort layer made from repurposed polymer bottles that would otherwise go to landfill. Its vertically crimped structure creates natural air channels through the fibre.
How it helps you sleep: Actively circulates air and wicks away moisture more efficiently than foam, helping to regulate body temperature throughout the night while maintaining firm, supportive feel.
Triple Edge Protectionâ„¢
What it is: Higher-tension springs running around the full perimeter of the mattress, reinforcing the border from top to bottom.
How it helps you sleep: Extends the full orthopaedic sleeping surface to the very edge - useful for heavier sleepers and those who use the full width of the bed, ensuring consistent firm support right to the border.
M-Pure Treated Cover
What it is: A natural, bio-based fire retardant treatment applied to the cover in place of traditional chemical-based retardants. M-Pure is 100% sustainable and biodegradable.
How it helps you sleep: Meets the required fire resistance standard while keeping the sleeping surface free from synthetic chemicals - the most environmentally responsible fire treatment available.
Hand Tufting
What it is: A traditional upholstery technique where tufts are hand-stitched from the top of the mattress to the bottom, securing all comfort layers in place.
How it helps you sleep: Keeps the fillings evenly distributed and prevents them from shifting over time, maintaining consistent orthopaedic support night after night.
2 Rows of Hand Side Stitching
What it is: Senior upholsterers use long needles and twine to hand-stitch the outer springs to the mattress border at both the top and bottom.
How it helps you sleep: Strengthens the edges, prevents spring distortion, and extends the sleeping area right to the border - the most labour-intensive finish in traditional mattress making.

Vs softer models: The Ortho Bronze is an orthopaedic mattress available only in Firm (5/6) or Extra Firm (6/6). It is designed for back and front sleepers and heavier individuals who specifically need firm or maximum resistance. Softer and medium models suit side sleepers and those needing pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. If you are unsure whether orthopaedic firmness is right for you, our medium mattress range is a versatile starting point.
Vs firm models: Standard firm mattresses provide solid support with some surface cushioning. The Ortho Bronze's Extra Firm option goes a step further, offering maximum resistance with minimal give - built specifically for heavier individuals, dedicated front or back sleepers, or those advised to sleep on an orthopaedic surface. The Firm option sits at the same 5/6 tension level but brings the Ortho Bronze's Triple Edge Protection and M-Pure cover credentials.
Vs the Ortho Silver: The Ortho Silver steps up from the Bronze with a higher-turn spring (7-turn vs 6-turn) and the addition of Red Tractor Assured British Wool for natural temperature regulation. Both products share the dual tension choice, Triple Edge Protectionâ„¢, M-Pure cover, 10-year guarantee and Eden Project partnership. The Bronze is the right choice for those who want Hypnos's entry-level orthopaedic credentials at a more accessible price; the Silver suits those who want the added natural benefits of British Wool and greater spring responsiveness.
The Hypnos Ortho Bronze is backed by Hypnos's free 10-year manufacturer's guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. Handcrafted in Britain with an orthopaedic pocket spring system, breathable sustainable comfort layers and traditional finishing techniques, this is a firm mattress built with longevity in mind - the guarantee reflects that confidence.
Hypnos Royal Warrant Holder - Hypnos has held a Royal Warrant since 1929, supplying beds to the British Royal Household. It is a standard of craftsmanship that has to be earned and maintained over generations.
National Bed Federation (NBF) Approved - Independently verified to meet strict UK standards for quality, safety and responsible manufacturing. Not every mattress brand carries this approval.
Made in Britain - Independently certified confirmation that the Ortho Bronze is manufactured in the UK, by Hypnos's fourth- and fifth-generation craftsmen.
Eden Project Partner - Hypnos works in partnership with the Eden Project to demonstrate that comfort and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. The partnership reflects Hypnos's commitment to sustainable materials and responsible manufacturing.
The Hypnos Ortho Bronze delivers genuine orthopaedic support through handcrafted British construction, Triple Edge Protectionâ„¢, breathable sustainable comfort fillings and a 10-year guarantee - all in your choice of Firm or Extra Firm tension, made exclusively for Land of Beds. It is the accessible starting point in the Hypnos orthopaedic range, offering the same core credentials as higher models without compromise on quality or craftsmanship.
