Worth knowing:
Platform Top Base
What it is: The base features a firm wooden platform top, fully upholstered in fabric, providing a solid, stable sleeping surface. The platform top is available in a range of fabric colours.
How it helps you: A platform top base creates a consistent, firm foundation that supports your mattress evenly across its full surface. This helps the mattress perform as intended, provides reliable support night after night, and helps extend the life of the mattress over time.
Storage Options
What it is: Storage configurations available: non storage; 2 full size drawers; 4 full size drawers; 2+2 continental drawers.
How it helps you: All drawer options are built into the base to keep your bedroom tidy without taking up extra floor space. Drawers have a 15kg per drawer weight limit and are well suited to storing spare bedding, pillows, or seasonal items. Allow clear floor space on the drawer side when ordering a drawer model.
The Included Mattress: Heyford Ortho
What it is: A firm (5/6) natural pocket spring mattress built around 2,000 individually wrapped pocket springs. Comfort layers include a hypoallergenic layer and cotton and viscose damask fillings. The mattress is hand side stitched with 2 rows, finished with a tufted wool cover in 100% viscose, and features chrome air vents to promote airflow. Depth is 30cm. This is a double-sided mattress that can be flipped.
How it helps you: The 2,000 pocket springs work independently to respond to your body's weight and movement, delivering targeted support without transferring that movement across to your partner. The hypoallergenic layer protects against dust mites and allergens, making this a good choice for allergy sufferers. Hand side stitching extends the sleeping surface right to the edge, giving you every centimetre of the mattress to sleep on. The chrome air vents keep air circulating through the mattress for a fresher sleep environment. Being a double-sided mattress, flipping it regularly will help it wear evenly and last longer.

The glides are fixed feet that keep the base stable and secure at floor level.
Vs bed frames: A divan set sits lower to the floor and has a cleaner, more minimal profile than most bed frames. The base is fully upholstered, with no exposed legs or joints visible. Crucially, this set includes the mattress - bed frame buyers purchase theirs separately. If integrated storage is a priority, a divan base typically offers more practical built-in options than a standard bed frame.
Vs other divan sets in the Land of Beds range: The Heyford Ortho sits at the firm end of our exclusive divan range. If you are a back or front sleeper, or a heavier sleeper who needs reliable support, this is the set to consider. Customers who prefer a medium or softer feel should explore other sets in the range - the Heyford Ortho is not trying to be an all-rounder, it is designed specifically for those who want firm, orthopaedic-style support.
Vs premium divan sets: The Heyford Ortho delivers the essentials of a quality firm divan - 2,000 pocket springs, hand side stitching, hypoallergenic fillings, and a double-sided construction - at an accessible price point. More premium divan sets in our range may offer deeper comfort layers, additional natural fillings, or longer guarantees, but the Heyford Ortho is built to deliver genuine firm support without compromise on the fundamentals.
The Heyford Ortho mattress is backed by a 5-year manufacturer's guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. The base is covered by a separate 1-year guarantee. The double-sided construction means the mattress is built to be flipped and rotated regularly, which will help it wear evenly and maintain its support over the life of the guarantee.
National Bed Federation (NBF) Approved - The Heyford Ortho is independently verified to meet strict UK standards for quality, safety, and responsible manufacturing. The NBF approval mark is your assurance that this mattress has been tested and certified by the UK's leading bed industry body.
Made in Britain - The Heyford Ortho is manufactured in West Yorkshire, Great Britain. British-made construction means quality control at every stage of the process.
The Heyford Ortho delivers firm, pocket spring support with a hypoallergenic construction and double-sided durability - made in Britain and available exclusively at Land of Beds. If you are a back or front sleeper, a heavier sleeper, or simply someone who knows they sleep better on a firm mattress, this is a set built for you.

Does this divan set include a mattress?
Yes. The Heyford Ortho is a complete divan bed set. It includes both the platform top base and the Heyford Ortho mattress - there is nothing additional to buy or pair.
Is a headboard included?
No. A headboard is not included in this set and is sold separately. See the compatible headboard options on the product page.
What is the firmness of the Heyford Ortho mattress?
The Heyford Ortho mattress is a firm (5/6) feel. It is designed for back and front sleepers, heavier sleepers, and anyone who prefers a solid, supportive sleeping surface with minimal sink. It is not suited to side sleepers, who typically need a softer tension to cushion the shoulders and hips.
What storage options are available?
The Heyford Ortho base is available in four configurations: non storage, 2 full size drawers, 4 full size drawers, or 2+2 continental drawers. Continental drawers open from the end of the bed rather than the side, which is useful if floor space alongside the bed is limited. Select your preferred storage option when choosing your size above.
What type of base does this set have?
The Heyford Ortho comes on a platform top base - a solid, flat surface upholstered in fabric. A platform top provides firm, consistent support across the full mattress surface, which works particularly well with a firm-feel mattress. There is no spring system in the base.
Can the mattress be flipped?
Yes. The Heyford Ortho mattress is double-sided and can both be flipped and rotated. Flipping and rotating regularly helps distribute wear evenly across both sides and extends the life of the mattress. We recommend doing this every few months.
Is the mattress suitable for people with allergies?
Yes. The Heyford Ortho mattress includes a hypoallergenic comfort layer that creates a protective barrier against dust mites and common allergens. The construction is also foam-free, using natural materials throughout.
Does the set contain any foam?
No. The Heyford Ortho is a foam-free mattress. The comfort layers use a hypoallergenic layer and cotton and viscose damask fillings, with 2,000 individually pocketed springs providing the support.
Is this divan set suitable for couples?
Yes, with one consideration. The 2,000 individually pocketed springs respond independently to each sleeper, which reduces the transfer of movement between partners. However, the Heyford Ortho is a firm (5/6) mattress - both sleepers need to be comfortable on a firm feel for it to work well for both. If one partner prefers a softer feel, a zip and link option may be worth exploring.
What sizes are available?
The Heyford Ortho divan set is available in Small Single, Single, Small Double, Double, King Size, and Super King Size. Select your size using the size selector above.
Does the base require assembly?
Yes. For all sizes larger than a single, the base arrives in two sections and will need to be assembled. Assembly is straightforward and typically takes around 30 minutes with two people. Fixings and instructions are included plus we do offer an assembly service, select this service at the checkout.
What guarantee is included?
The Heyford Ortho mattress is covered by a 5-year manufacturer's guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. The base is covered separately by a 1-year guarantee.
What are the feet like on the base?
The base comes with silver glides fixed to the underside at each corner. Glides keep the base stable and secure on the floor. Unlike castors, they do not roll, so the bed stays firmly in position.
Is the Heyford Ortho NBF Approved?
Yes. The Heyford Ortho is independently verified by the National Bed Federation (NBF) to meet strict UK standards for quality, safety, and responsible manufacturing. NBF Approved status confirms the product complies with UK fire safety regulations and quality benchmarks.
