The Relyon Athena is a Medium (3/6) hand-nested pocket spring mattress made exclusively for Land of Beds, built around 1400 individually pocketed springs that are hand-nested in a honeycomb pattern and centre-tied with linen cord to minimise partner disturbance. Layers of lamb's wool, cashmere and silk, and cotton give the Relyon Athena a breathable, naturally temperature-regulating feel, finished with hand tufting and two rows of hand side stitching so it holds its shape and support for longer. This clearance listing offers one Double Relyon Athena mattress at a reduced price as Ex-Showroom stock, which may show minor cosmetic marks from time on display, though this does not affect comfort or support.
This item is part of our Ex-Showroom range. An Ex-Showroom item could have some marks or wear and tear from being on display in one of our showrooms. This will be cosmetic and will not affect the usability of the product. If you require any extra information just give us a call on 01928 242829.
The Relyon Athena is a Medium-feel hand-nested pocket spring mattress with natural lamb's wool, cashmere and silk fillings, made exclusively for Land of Beds and best suited to sleepers who want balanced, versatile support, effective motion isolation and natural temperature regulation - offered here in Double at a clearance price as an Ex-Showroom model.
Medium Feel - 3/6: The Goldilocks option - not too firm, not too soft. Medium is the most versatile firmness level, balancing comfort and support in a way that suits most sleeper types.

Worth knowing
1400 Individual Pocket Springs
What it is: A system of 1400 individually pocketed springs, each working independently to respond to your shape and weight.
How it helps you sleep: The upper part of each spring shapes to your body's contours while the lower part absorbs changes in weight distribution, giving tailored comfort and support without the springs rolling together.
Hand-Nested and Hand-Centre-Tied Springs
What it is: Individual springs hand-nested in a honeycomb pattern and tied together with linen cord.
How it helps you sleep: This traditional construction minimises movement transfer between sleeping partners, so you're far less likely to be disturbed if your partner moves or gets up in the night.
Lamb's Wool
What it is: A soft, naturally insulating comfort layer of lamb's wool.
How it helps you sleep: Lamb's wool regulates temperature and wicks away moisture, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter for a consistently comfortable night's sleep.
Blended Cashmere and Silk Layer
What it is: A blended layer of ultra-soft cashmere and strong, temperature-regulating silk.
How it helps you sleep: Cashmere is one of the softest natural fibres, while silk is strong, absorbent and excellent for temperature regulation - together they add a sumptuous, supportive feel.
Cotton Layer
What it is: A responsive cotton layer that complements the spring unit.
How it helps you sleep: Cotton enhances breathability and adds a comfortable, natural feel just beneath the surface of the mattress.
Hypo-Allergenic Layer
What it is: A sterilised, dust-free layer of hypo-allergenic fibre positioned beneath the mattress cover.
How it helps you sleep: This layer creates a cleaner sleeping surface, making the mattress a suitable choice for allergy sufferers.
M-Pure Treated Cover
What it is: A 100% Viscose cover treated with M-Pure, a sustainable, biodegradable natural fire retardant.
How it helps you sleep: Instead of chemical-based treatments, M-Pure uses natural bio-based ingredients, giving you a fresh, hygienic sleeping surface.
Hand Tufted with Wool Tufts
What it is: A traditional hand-tufting technique that secures the fillings from top to bottom using natural wool tufts.
How it helps you sleep: Hand tufting keeps the fillings evenly distributed for consistent comfort and helps the mattress hold its shape for longer.
2 Rows of Hand Side Stitching
What it is: Two rows of hand-applied stitching along the mattress border, carried out by skilled upholsterers with traditional long needles and twine.
How it helps you sleep: This strengthens the borders and prevents the springs from distorting, extending the usable sleeping surface right to the edge of the mattress.
Flag-Stitched Handles
What it is: Handles sewn onto both sides of the mattress using a flag-stitch method.
How it helps you sleep: Handles make it easier to turn and rotate the mattress, helping you look after it properly for lasting comfort.

Vs firmer mattresses: The Athena's Medium tension and natural comfort layers give noticeably more cushioning at the shoulders and hips than a firmer mattress. If you sleep on your side, or want a more forgiving surface without losing support, this is likely the better choice. Firmer mattresses tend to suit heavier sleepers or those who prefer a more rigid surface.
Vs softer mattresses: The Athena gives more structural support beneath its comfort layers than a soft mattress. Softer mattresses can feel plusher on first lie-down but may not keep the spine as consistently aligned, particularly for combination sleepers or couples with different body weights.
Vs premium and luxury mattresses: The Athena shares the hand-nested pocket spring construction, natural fillings and hand-finishing techniques found in higher-priced ranges, with the difference typically lying in the depth and range of comfort layers. As an Ex-Showroom clearance model, it brings that craftsmanship home at a reduced price, in exchange for possible light cosmetic wear from display.
The Relyon Athena comes with Relyon's 15-year manufacturer's guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship.
The accreditations below apply to Relyon as a manufacturer.
Manufacturing Guild Mark - Relyon was the first bed manufacturer to be awarded this mark by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, recognising its commitment to quality, craftsmanship and durability.
National Bed Federation (NBF) A-Grade Manufacturer - Independently verified to meet strict UK standards for quality, safety and responsible manufacturing.
ISO 14001 Environmental Certification - Relyon was the second UK bed manufacturer to achieve this environmental standard, reflecting a genuine commitment to reducing waste and energy use.
Zero Waste to Landfill Policy - Relyon's manufacturing process is designed to send nothing to landfill, reducing the environmental impact of every mattress produced.
The Athena brings 1400 hand-nested pocket springs, natural lamb's wool, cashmere and silk fillings and traditional hand finishing to your bedroom. This clearance listing offers the Double in Medium tension at a reduced price while stocks last - ideal for side, back, front and combination sleepers.
