The Vispring Bedstead Distinction is a luxury handcrafted mattress from Vispring, the original inventor of the pocket spring, built to the exacting standards the brand has upheld in Great Britain for over 120 years. It is constructed around 2450 hand nested pocket springs made from Vanadium steel, with fillings of Platinum Certified British fleece wool, horsetail and bamboo layered by hand for even distribution and natural temperature regulation. Available in Soft, Medium, Firm or Extra Firm tension, it is the kind of mattress built to be lived with for decades, backed by a genuine 30-year guarantee.
A luxury handcrafted pocket sprung mattress with natural British wool, horsetail and bamboo fillings, available in Soft, Medium, Firm or Extra Firm tension so you can choose the support that suits you, with hand finished tailoring and a 30-year guarantee.
This mattress is available in four tensions. Each one uses the same handcrafted pocket spring and natural filling construction, so you can choose the feel that's right for you without compromising on quality.
Our softest tension, designed for maximum comfort and pressure relief. Ideal for side sleepers, this feel allows shoulders and hips to gently sink into the mattress for a cushioned, cosy night's sleep.

Vs firmer mattresses: The natural wool and horsetail comfort layers on the softer tensions of the Bedstead Distinction give noticeably more cushioning at the shoulders and hips than a firmer mattress. If you sleep on your side, or simply want more give in the comfort layers, the Soft or Medium tension is likely the better choice. Firmer mattresses suit heavier sleepers or those who prefer a more rigid, unyielding surface throughout.
Vs softer mattresses: This mattress offers considerably more structural support underneath its comfort layers, thanks to 2450 hand nested pocket springs working in two layers. Softer mattresses can feel more immediately plush, but may not maintain spinal alignment as consistently for back, front or heavier sleepers, especially over the full 30-year guarantee period this mattress is built to last.
Vs premium and luxury mattresses: The Bedstead Distinction shares the same handcrafted construction, hand nested pocket springs and natural, foam-free fillings found across Vispring's range. Where it differs from higher-priced Vispring models is typically in the depth and combination of natural fillings used, rather than any compromise in craftsmanship, materials or the 30-year guarantee.
The Bedstead Distinction is backed by Vispring's 30-year manufacturer's guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. Given the quality of the Vanadium steel springs, natural fillings and handcrafted construction, this is a mattress built to be lived with for decades, and the guarantee reflects that confidence.
National Bed Federation (NBF) Approved - Independently verified to meet strict UK standards for quality, safety and responsible manufacturing.
British Wool Marketing Board Platinum Certified - The wool used in this mattress is certified to the highest grade set by the British Wool Marketing Board, guaranteeing quality and traceability.
Campaign for Wool Partner - Vispring works in partnership with the Campaign for Wool, supporting the use of this natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre in place of synthetic alternatives.
Handmade in Great Britain - Handcrafted by Vispring in the UK to the same exacting standards the brand has upheld for over 120 years.
The Bedstead Distinction delivers a rare combination: genuine handcrafted luxury, a choice of four support levels, and natural, breathable fillings, all backed by a 30-year guarantee. If you want a mattress built the traditional way and designed to be lived with for decades, this is one to consider.
