The Derwent is an adjustable bed from Adjust-A-Bed, designed and handmade in the UK, combining 1000 individually pocketed springs with a breathable Air-Lite Comfort Foam layer and foam-encapsulated edges in a medium firm tension. The motorised base adjusts the back, shoulders, neck, calves, and feet independently via a wired handset, and an optional Lifestyle upgrade base adds a wireless remote, memory function, and emergency lowering. Available in Small Single through to Super King - with King and Super King supplied as a split design with two linked bases - it's backed by a 5-year guarantee, and qualifying customers can buy it VAT-free.
A medium firm, pocket-sprung adjustable bed with a breathable comfort foam layer and a 5-part frame, designed for sleepers who change position through the night and want stable, supportive positioning for sleeping, reading, or easing aches and pains.

Worth Knowing
Pocket Spring System
What it is: 1000 individually wrapped springs that respond independently to weight and movement across the mattress.
How it helps you: Each spring moves without affecting those around it, so the mattress contours to your body rather than creating a general hollow - and partner movement on a split King or Super King is absorbed without disturbing the other side.
Air-Lite Comfort Foam
What it is: A breathable comfort foam layer that conforms to the body's contours.
How it helps you: Provides personalised support and pressure relief at the hips, shoulders, and lower back, helping to reduce the likelihood of waking up with aches and pains.
Foam Encapsulated Edges
What it is: A high-density foam strip placed inside the edge of the mattress springs.
How it helps you: Prevents the mattress from sagging at the edge, giving a more supportive sleeping area and more usable edge-to-edge space.
Tufted Finish
What it is: A traditional upholstery method where fillings are secured with tufts running from the top of the mattress to the bottom.
How it helps you: Keeps loose fillings secured in place for a consistent, supportive finish over time.
5-Part Adjustable Frame
What it is: A motorised frame divided into five independently moving sections - back, shoulders, neck, calves, and feet.
How it helps you: Lets you fine-tune your sleeping or resting position with precision - useful for finding a position that supports specific areas of the back or relieves pressure on the legs.
Wooden Sprung Slat Base
What it is: Wooden slats with a natural spring, used in the base in place of a rigid platform.
How it helps you: Works in conjunction with the mattress to flex where you exert the most pressure, giving a comfortable and supportive feel whether the bed is flat or elevated.
Twin Motor Mechanism
What it is: Two separate motors, allowing the head and foot of the bed to be adjusted independently.
How it helps you: Lets you find your ideal sleeping or resting position, adjusting head and foot at the same time or separately - useful for tailored support or added comfort.
Wired Handset
What it is: A corded remote control that connects to the base and operates the motors.
How it helps you: Provides reliable, straightforward control - always within reach on the bedside, with no batteries required.
Chrome Glides
What it is: Chrome-finished glides fitted to the underside of the base.
How it helps you: Provide smooth mobility and protect your floors, while adding a sleek, modern touch to the bed's design.

The Derwent is also available with the optional Lifestyle base upgrade. This replaces the Wooden Sprung Slat Base with a Strong Board Base for even weight distribution, and is described by the manufacturer as a 4 Part Twin Motor system offering independent adjustment of the head, legs, and lumbar areas. It replaces the wired handset with a wireless remote control featuring a built-in torch and mobile app availability, adds a memory function to store preferred positions, and includes an emergency lowering feature that returns the base to flat in the event of a power cut. The Lifestyle base also increases the maximum user weight to 30 stone. For pricing and to order the upgrade, call our team on 01928 242 829.
A matching Repton headboard is available as an optional extra for the Derwent. It is a deep-padded design available in matching fabrics and colours, standing 61cm (24'') in height with a depth of 7cm (2.75''), available in all sizes from Small Single to Super King. It attaches to the base using standard adjustable struts for a secure, seamless fit.
Vs standard divan beds: A standard divan bed sits flat and cannot be adjusted. An adjustable bed allows independent elevation of the head and foot, which is useful for reading, watching TV, managing snoring or acid reflux, or supporting recovery from surgery or illness. Divan beds are typically lower in profile, simpler to dress, and cost significantly less. An adjustable bed is the right choice when positioning matters - for health reasons or everyday comfort. If a flat, low-profile bed is what you need, a divan is the better fit.
Vs other adjustable beds in the range: The Derwent sits in the middle of the Adjust-A-Bed range, with a pocket-sprung, medium firm mattress rather than the foam-only, extra firm construction of models like the Backcare Firm. Its 1000 pocket springs and foam-encapsulated edges make it a good fit for combination sleepers and couples who want more give than an orthopaedic-grade model, while still offering the same wired handset, 5-part standard frame, and optional Lifestyle upgrade with wireless remote and memory function found across the range. Those wanting maximum firmness or a foam-only build may prefer a firmer model instead.
Vs buying the mattress separately: This adjustable bed is also available as a mattress-only purchase - useful if you already have a compatible adjustable base and want to upgrade the mattress without replacing the whole bed. If you are buying your first adjustable bed, purchasing the base and mattress together ensures compatibility. The mattress-only listing for this bed can be found here.
The Derwent is backed by Adjust-A-Bed's 5-year guarantee, covering the base, mattress, and motorised mechanisms against defects in materials and workmanship. Motor cover is included as standard, giving buyers confidence in the build quality of a product that is more mechanically complex than a standard bed.
The Derwent combines a medium firm pocket-sprung mattress with a breathable comfort foam layer, a 5-part adjustable base, and a 5-year guarantee - a supportive, versatile choice for anyone who changes position through the night or wants help easing aches and pains. Available in Small Single through to Super King, with King and Super King supplied as a split design for independent adjustment, and free UK delivery included.
